Friday, 21 January 2011

CitySprint, the UK’s largest privately owned SameDay distribution company, has started the year by acquiring Swindon based Mainlink Courier Services Ltd and Airlink Worldwide Ltd for an undisclosed sum. CitySprint has been established in Swindon since 1989 and the new deal will further strengthen CitySprint’s presence in the region following its acquisition of another local courier firm, Road Runners Ltd, in October 2010.

Mainlink Courier Services Ltd was established in 1989 by Ann and Bob Hocking to provide dedicated transport solutions within the UK. The company, which offers a range of courier services from SameDay Courier through to International shipments, has grown over the years through providing a consistently high level of service to various clients around the Swindon, Cirencester and surrounding areas.

From Friday 21st January 2011 Mainlink Courier Services Ltd will trade as CitySprint, operating from its existing ServiceCentre in Swindon. Two members of staff, and a number of self-employed couriers, will move across from Mainlink to CitySprint to help ensure continuity of service for existing customers.

Mark Butler, Ann’s son, became involved in the running of the family business in October 2004 and he explains their decision to hand over the reins; “We had been reviewing the future of the business for some time as personal and business circumstances had changed . After 21 years hard of hard work my mother and Bob had started to think about retirement. CitySprint approached us and after discussing it together we decided that the timing could not have been better. We were impressed by CitySprint’s professionalism and the benefits that our customers would get from them and therefore decided to hand over the reins.”

“We would like to thank all of our staff and couriers for their hard work and support, and for our customers’ loyalty over the years. We wish CitySprint every success with the continuation of the business.”

Existing Mainlink customers will now benefit from the opportunity for improved collection and delivery times made possible by CitySprint’s unique national network. . CitySprint operates the largest GPS enabled SameDay fleet in Europe which allows its customers to benefit from real-time information from collection through to delivery at the touch of a button, via the CitySprint website. CitySprint’s sector leading OnLine services offer complete transparency by providing a live map location of the courier undertaking each job and real-time electronic PODs .

As well as strengthening its presence in Swindon, the deal also enables CitySprint to continue its growth strategy which has been fuelled by a period of organic growth and strategic acquisitions.

CitySprint Chief Executive, Patrick Gallagher said: “CitySprint is very pleased to welcome Mainlink as part of the business. Following the successful acquisition of Road Runners in late 2010, this will further consolidate our presence in Swindon and surrounding areas.”

“We are committed to the continued growth of our business both organically and through carefully selected acquisitions, which enable us to continue to build our unique national network. We are therefore continuously looking for exciting acquisition opportunities across the country.”
